For urgent issues outside office hours (e.g., floods, fire, power outages, no hot water, broken toilets), contact Campus Safety & Emergency Services at 519-661-3300. Non-emergency requests will be addressed during regular business hours.
Garbage & Recycling
Please use designated sheds and enviro-bins for waste and recycling. Do NOT leave garbage on patios, balconies or in hallways. Bayfield Hall tenants: Use the garbage chute or designated disposal areas. Large items (e.g., boxes) should NOT go down the chute.
Sort recyclables properly—mixed waste contaminates recycling. For more guidelines, visit the City of London Recycling website.
Pest Prevention and Treatment
In high-density housing, occasional pest issues, such as cockroaches or bedbugs, can happen. Pests are often brought in unintentionally through luggage, cardboard or secondhand items.
Reporting and Response
Western Housing takes pest concerns seriously. If you suspect an issue, report it to the Rental Office immediately. Prompt reporting helps prevent spread.
Once a report is received, a licensed pest control company will assess and treat the unit. Adjacent units may also be inspected to ensure thorough treatment.
Tenant Responsibilities
To support effective treatment, tenants may be asked to clear kitchen and bathroom counters and cupboards, remove drawers and move furniture away from walls, and wash clothing or linens. Detailed pre-treatment instructions will be provided based on the type of pest and treatment method.
Treatments may include baited gels, sprays, traps or a combination of methods. Multiple treatments may be required. Do NOT use store-bought pesticides (e.g., Raid) or home remedies, as these can interfere with professional treatments.
Western Housing covers the cost of pest control services. However, tenants are expected to prepare their unit as instructed, maintain cleanliness and allow access for inspections and treatments. Failure to comply may result in service charges and could impact future lease eligibility.
